Science & Society Activities:
Cafe Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology.
Dr Koumandou has been organizing Cafe Scientifique in Athens since February 2013.
Meetings take place once a month, currently on Mondays (talks are given in Greek).
Videos of past talks are hosted on the site of Bodossakis Lectures on Demand.
Pint of Science is a 3-day festival which takes place annually in the month of May and simultaneously in hundreds of venues across the world. It aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest science research in an accessible format to the public – mainly across bars, pubs, cafes and other public spaces. It provides a platform which allows people to discuss research with the people who carry it out and no prior knowledge of the subject is required. Dr Koumandou presented a talk in May 2018 when Pint of Science first came to Greece.
The Athens Science Festival is a week of experiment demonstrations for kids of all ages, workshops, talks, performances, science & art installations, and other happenings. The festival runs once a year, for a week in the spring, in Technopolis at the center of Athens. It is organized by the educational organization “Science Communication – SciCo”, the British Council, the Onassis Scholars’ Association and the General Secretariat for Research & Technology, in collaboration with various academic, research and educational institutes. Dr Koumandou was part of the organizing team of the first festival in 2014, helping to organize Cafe Scientifiique talks.
